Visiting Edinburgh Zoo: Zoo-per New Additions And Wild Attractions

We love visiting Edinburgh Zoo. In fact, it is one of our favourite things to do in Edinburgh. It is why we always make sure we have a fantastic Edinburgh Zoo Offer available throughout the year. Unlike other Zoos, Edinburgh Zoo is full of all the quirky animals and amazing exhibits you would expect from the city that made bizarre festivals famous. Home to over 1,000 rare and wonderful animals from around the world (including the UK’s only giant pandas and koalas), the Zoo is a champion for conservation and education. And this year, Edinburgh’s wildest attraction just got a whole lot wilder.

New Arrivals: Fowl Play on Penguin Rock

Whoever said visiting the Zoo was for the birds, was absolutely right! Every year, the keepers at Edinburgh Zoo wait patiently to welcome a variety of Zoo-borns to the park. And this year, the playful penguins from Penguins Rock ruffled quite a few feathers by stealing the “new arrivals” show. Their newest hatchlings included an endangered Northern Rockhopper Penguin (the first born at the Zoo in over 8 years!), which was born on World Penguin Day! So now anyone visiting Edinburgh Zoo can enjoy these loveable nestlings and their parentals splashing about in Europe’s largest outdoor penguin pool, or strutting their stuff on the daily penguin parade. And if you are really lucky, you may even get to see Sir Nils Olav – the only penguin in the world to boast the prestigious honour of a knighthood.

Wild Goings-on: Visiting Edinburgh Zoo Will Bring Out The Animal In You

If you love creepy-crawlies, then you will love the new Wee Beasties exhibition at Edinburgh Zoo. This year-round, indoor exhibition is home to all your favourite bugs, reptiles and amphibians, and highlights the important role these wee beasties play in the environment. From wee beasties to ferocious giants, head on over to the new state-of-the-art tiger exhibit and get closer to these magnificent cats than ever before in the new glass viewing tunnel! There’s also bound to be spook-takular fun in the Tiger Tracks exhibit this Halloween you don’t want to miss.

Giant Panda Lanterns: It’s Panda-monium This Winter

And finally, anyone visiting Edinburgh Zoo this winter is in for a real treat. The Zoo will be home to The Giant Panda Lanterns of China – a dazzling installation of over 450 giant lanterns that will illuminate the Zoo for 50 awe-inspiring nights! From the 1st of December 2017 until the 25th of February 2018, Edinburgh Zoo will light up the Edinburgh skyline with 34 amazing animal-themed lanterns. From bashful pandas to a 115-foot long Chinese dragon, this is one winter festivity you don’t want to miss.

With so many wild new attractions and goings-on, is it any wonder why visiting Edinburgh is one of our favourite things to do. Don’t forget to book your Edinburgh Zoo Break with the Parliament House Hotel today!
