Leith
The historic port of Leith, to the north side of Edinburgh, has been transformed in recent years. Top attractions, Michelin-star restaurants and specialist shops have all helped in the creation of today’s stylish waterfront setting. So, here’s our guide to the best things to do in Leith.

Things to do in Leith
Leith has a rich history as Edinburgh’s port. So, there are lots of monuments, landmarks and fascinating structures to explore. This Explore Historic Leith Guidebook is an excellent guide. Featuring everything from the huge statue of Queen Victoria at the foot of Leith Walk, to the impressive Victoria Swing Bridge on The Shore.

Get exploring…
Leith’s most famous attraction is the five-star Royal Yacht Britannia. This huge ship was a luxurious holiday home to the Queen and Royal Family for over 40 years. It sailed all over the world taking them to exotic destinations. Now berthed in Leith, you can climb on board yourself and discover what life was like on Britannia for the royals, their guests and staff.
If you’re feeling sporty, visit the Leith Victoria Swim Centre, a 19th Century Baths which has been modernised, but still retains its Victorian charm. Or, take a walk in the park at Leith Links. It’s famous as the birthplace of modern golf, but today you can enjoy a game of tennis or bowling on the Outdoor Courts. Just bring your own equipment.
And if you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, the Water of Leith Walkway is a tranquil footpath. Here, you can take a quiet waterside walk or cycle, right in the centre of town. It is around 18 miles long, starting in Leith and running past many city attractions including the Royal Botanic Garden, the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art and Murrayfield Stadium.

‘Great, up and coming spot to spend the day when visiting Edinburgh. Far enough away from Edinburgh City centre to have its own identity but so close that it is easy to make the journey there. Spend a day here, grab some brunch in one of the trendy little gastro bars, check out the little museums and galleries’

So it is a great place to come and dine and it is well worth making time to visit and enjoy some of the culinary delights that are in store.

It’s easy to visit Leith from Edinburgh city centre. If you’re staying in our central hotel, you can hop on a bus from Princes Street and be there in about 20 minutes. The number 22 bus runs regularly down to The Shore. It’s well worth the short journey to this vibrant part of the city, with so many great things to do in Leith. Shop Till You Drop
Leith is home to Ocean Terminal, a modern shopping centre with high street shops. It also has many places to eat and drink, a cinema, gym and soft play centre.
Every Saturday, you can visit Leith Market, where you’ll find fresh, local produce, hand-made gifts and other treats. Or, for a spot of bargain hunting, there’s the Out of the Blue Flea Market for clothes, jewellery, furniture and bric-a-brac.
