Christmas is a wonderful time to visit Edinburgh. The whole city sparkles and glitters as we celebrate the winter festivals. If you’re staying with us over the festive season, we’ve put together an action-packed itinerary of things to do and places to see.
Morning Market
We think the best time to visit the Edinburgh Christmas Market is in the morning when it is less crowded. So, after breakfast in our cosy breakfast room, take a 10-minute walk from your accommodation at Parliament House Hotel to Princes Street Gardens. Here you’ll find a magical winter wonderland, full of Edinburgh Christmas lights, festive stalls and attractions. The perfect place to start your Christmas shopping.
Festive Lunch
At the Christmas Market, you can choose from a whole array of tasty street food and drink. Bratwurst hot dogs, beef short ribs, Scottish seafood, vegan burgers, fish and chips, mac and cheese and more is on sale from specialist stands. Not to mention sweet treats like gingerbread, fudge and macaroons. Plus, whisky cocktails, mulled wine and hot chocolate are available to bring you warmth and festive cheer.
Afternoon Adventures
In the afternoon, you may decide to stay at the Christmas Market and experience some of the fun fairground rides and attractions. From the gentle carousel to the thrilling star flyer.
If you’re ready to venture onwards, you could go to The Dome for a festive drink. This is the most Christmassy place in Edinburgh, with stunning decorations that will definitely get you into the spirit of the season.
Or, how about a visit to Edinburgh Castle, the city’s most famous landmark? Here, you’ll learn the traditions of a Victorian Christmas, discovering festive facts, like who invented the Christmas cracker and who sent the first ever Christmas card. If you’re still hungry, you can also enjoy a delicious Christmas Afternoon Tea, complete with mince pies and a chocolate Rudolph!

For your evening entertainment, we’d suggest booking tickets for one of these fantastic Christmas shows in Edinburgh. We offer a fabulous pre-theatre deal, if you’d like to dine beforehand.
