Visiting Edinburgh: February 2024

Are you coming to stay with us at Parliament House Hotel in Edinburgh this February? Here’s what’s happening in and around the city, to keep you busy and entertained. From Valentine’s Day events to the Six Nations rugby tournament, plenty is going on.

February festivals and events

February is the month of love, with Valentine’s Day coming up on the 14th. If you’re planning on visiting us for a Valentine’s break, take a look at our guides to romantic views and things to do here in Edinburgh. Enjoy a special meal together, visit the theatre, go for a walk and take in the beautiful architecture and scenery. We think Edinburgh is one of the most romantic cities in the world!

From 1st to 24th February, the Manipulate Festival hosts a fantastic programme of visual theatre, puppetry and animated film for adult audiences. Produced by Puppet Animation Scotland, this is a fantastic event, taking place across several arts venues in the city. It’s a great opportunity to explore the visual arts and discover something new!

Also in February, the Six Nations rugby championship kicks off, and Murrayfield will host our first home match on the 10th, against France. This is a big event in the rugby calendar and will, of course, be backing blue! See fixtures.

Theatre breaks this February

Our hotel is just around the corner from the wonderful Edinburgh Playhouse, where you can enjoy a rich and varied programme of live shows throughout the year. Big shows this month include Jesus Christ Superstar from the 6th to 10th, and The Wizard of Oz from the 13th to 17th. There’s also comedy from James Acaster and Peter Pan Goes Wrong. See full listings here.

Attraction of the month: Camera Obscura and World of Illusions

For February, our attraction of the month is the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions. This is a large attraction on the Royal Mile, featuring five floors of optical illusions and hands-on exhibits. It’s great to explore in the winter months as there are over 100 indoor exhibits to enjoy. There are historical wonders, such as the famous Camera Obscura itself, a pinhole camera which projects live moving images of Edinburgh onto a screen in a regular show at the top of the tower. While modern marvels include a dizzying vortex tunnel, a bamboozling mirror maze and powerful viewcams showcasing views of city below. Plan your visit here.

Offer of the month: Romantic Breaks

Whisk your loved one away for a Romantic Break in Edinburgh and a one-night stay in a double room at our central Parliament House Hotel, a chilled bottle of prosecco on arrival and a full Scottish breakfast in the morning. You’ll also enjoy a bubbly Victorian afternoon tea at the nearby Brewhemia, which is an experience in itself. *Full details and T&Cs.

Day trip of the month: Dundee

Edinburgh is a great base from which to explore the rest of Scotland. With convenient transport links by train and bus, and hire car options available, it’s so easy to get around. Our day trip of the month is the city of Dundee. Easy to reach from Edinburgh by train in around 1.5 hours. Dundee lies on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, and has many brilliant attractions in the city centre. Visit the V&A Dundee, Scotland’s design museum, and be inspired by this remarkable building and its design displays and exhibitions. Climb aboard RRS Discovery, an iconic ship that once sailed to the Antarctic with Captain Scott. And learn about the history of Dundee’s textile industry at Verdant Works mill and museum. Plan your trip.
