If you love animals, mythical creatures and huge lantern displays, then you’re in for a treat at Edinburgh Zoo this winter. The spectacular Giant Lanterns of China returned to Edinburgh Zoo last month and will be on display until 17th February 2019. So, there’s no better time to visit us here in Edinburgh.
Chinese Lanterns at Edinburgh Zoo
Edinburgh Zoo is illuminated by over 450 giant lanterns that depict creatures from Scottish and Chinese folklore. This magical trail is the biggest event of its kind in Scotland.
Skilled Chinese craftsmen have created these huge magnificent silk and steel lantern structures. They have been placed around Edinburgh Zoo, taking visitors on a trail where lanterns light up pathways, lakes and ponds.
While you follow the trail, you’ll see lanterns of animals past and present. Including mythical beasts such as unicorns, giants, kelpies and even the Loch Ness Monster! The circuit route is about a mile long and takes around 90 minutes to walk around. It takes place each night from 4.45 to 8.45 pm. As it’s a very popular event, we strogly recommend you book your tickets and time slot in advance.
