This winter, be dazzled and delighted by one of Edinburgh’s spectacular winter light trails. Walk through a trail of illuminated lanterns, light installations or projections and experience something truly special and unique. The perfect way to light up the darker winter evenings!

Edinburgh Zoo is illuminated by over 600 giant lanterns that celebrate 570 million years of wildlife. From the origins of life to a world of dinosaurs and forgotten giants of the animal kingdom.

Skilled Chinese craftsmen have created these huge magnificent silk and steel lantern structures. They have been placed around Edinburgh Zoo, taking visitors on a trail where lanterns light up pathways, lakes and ponds.

From 15th November 2019 to 26th January 2020. The event takes place each night from 4.45 pm to 9 pm and takes around an hour and a half to complete. Book your tickets here.

Christmas at The Botanics

This mile-long glittering path winds its way through the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, on a magical winter light trail.

The beautiful Tunnel of Light twinkles with thousands of pea lights. The laser garden dances and shines. And the Scented Fire Garden provides a moment for calm reflection. After taking in the sights and sounds of this magnificent trail, enjoy the Festive Finale, where brightly coloured projections dance to classic Christmas tunes.

From 22nd November to 29th December 2019, slots begin from 4.40 pm to 8.00 pm. The trail takes around an hour and a half to complete. Book your tickets here.

Castle of Light

New for winter 2019, Castle of Light is a trail of art lighting installations, which will illuminate the ancient walls of Edinburgh Castle. Telling the history of this iconic landmark through dazzling light projections and animations.

From 14th November to 22nd December 2019, with time slots between 5.30 pm and 10 pm. The trail takes around an hour and a half to complete. Book your tickets here.
