While based at Parliament House Hotel in Edinburgh, you’re within reach of some of the best golf courses in the world. Take a day trip to Fife and play at St Andrews Links for a truly unforgettable experience. It takes just an hour and a half to drive from Edinburgh to St Andrews. You can also reach St Andrews by bus, which takes around 2 hours. Or, you can take the train to Leuchars, and then a taxi.
Historic and renowned
There are seven public courses available to play at St Andrews Links. The Castle Course, Balgove Course, Eden Course, Jubilee Course, Strathtyrum Course, New Course and Old Course. The Old Course is the most famous. It’s considered to be the oldest golf course in the world, and is known as the “home of golf”. It was instrumental in the development of the modern game, setting the standard of 18 holes. And has hosted The Open Championship, the world’s oldest golf tournament, more times than any other course. Playing the Old Course is a special experience, but please note there are strict handicap restrictions and tee times must be booked in advance. Please see below for more details.

Play golf at St Andrews
To play the Old Course, you must have a suitable handicap, and you need to book a tee time in advance. Check this page for full details of handicap requirements, and how to apply for a tee time or enter the ballot, which is drawn 48 hours before the date of play. However, if you don’t manage to secure a slot, there are plenty of other amazing golf courses to enjoy on the St Andrews Links.
