Duddingston Golf Club
Duddingston Golf Club first opened its doors in 1895. Since then, it has been expanded to a 6525-yard course with 18 holes. The architect, Willie Park, chose the initial site and created what was originally the entire course and club. In the 1960s and 1970s, architects John Shade and Bill Biggar helped to expand the site to its current size. Their aim was to make sure it reached its full potential and what Willie Park had hoped for – ‘a first-class course’.
The club is just 3 and a half miles from us here at Parliament House Hotel and 1 mile from the stunning Duddingston Loch. From the centre of Edinburgh, it is just over 3 miles.
An idyllic golfer’s haven
Only 10 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh, the course sits in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat. The 823-foot-tall hill attracts millions of curious tourists each year. The course is set over undulating parkland on the banks of the beautiful Braid Burn. You do need to be a little careful that it doesn’t claim too many shots! It features in 14 of the 18 holes.
It is this idyllic setting and a brilliant course that has gained Duddingston its reputation as one of the most outstanding parkland courses in the Lothians. The course is well-known for its challenging design and sweeping fairways. Although, the club’s association with names like Ronnie Shade, MBE, also helps with its fame!
State-of-the-art equipment
The Pro Shop at the club has everything an avid golfer could dream of. That includes a state-of-the-art Indoor SW:ING Studio & Golf Simulator. This is the first of its kind in the area. The resident coaches use the system to help deliver the very highest level of instruction and club fitting.

It is an easy walking course with no steep hills but greens are fast and tricky. We had excellent fish and chips in their clubhouse after our round.’

Visiting Duddingston Golf Club
Visitors are welcome at Duddingston golf club, and it is definitely a change of pace from many other golf clubs around the country. A game of golf at Duddingston Golf Club is a golfing treat and will leave you wanting more. Regarded as one of the best courses in the area this is a must-play.
For some scenic putting, you can book online. Visitors are welcome within the clubhouse, too. The facilities include a high-standard lounge, a bar, and a restaurant where guests are treated to stunning views of the course. The function hall is available for hire for private events.
