Prestonfield Golf Club
Prestonfield Golf Club is a 10-minute drive or 15-minute bus journey from Parliament House Hotel in Edinburgh. Just south of Holyrood Park, it’s the perfect location for a game of golf during your stay with us. This 18-hole parkland course enjoys views of Arthur’s Seat and the Salisbury Crags. Designed by the renowned golf course architect, James Braid, it is both challenging and enjoyable to play. Welcoming both members and visitors.
A James Braid course
James Braid was one of the great professional golfers of the early 1900s. In his later years, he became a golf course architect, designing over 200 courses in his lifetime. Prestonfield is one of those courses, which Braid laid out for the Civil Service Golf Society in 1920. It benefits from a stunning location at the foot of Arthur’s Seat, less than a mile from Edinburgh city centre. The holes are mostly named with historical links to the area, and have fantastic names such as “Hunter’s Bog”, “Wells O’Wearie” and “Windy Garden”. The 14th hole is called “Dog Leg”, a common type of golf hole with a turn, shaped like a dog’s leg. In fact, Braid is often credited with inventing the dog leg hole.
