Muirfield Golf Club
Muirfield is one of the top golf courses in Scotland, and indeed the world. Located only 20 miles from Edinburgh, it’s less than an hour’s drive from Parliament House Hotel. As one of the golf courses used in rotation for The Open Championship, it is world-renowned, and golfers travel from far and wide to play here. Visitors are welcome to Muirfield on selected dates, so check and book in advance.
Playing at Muirfield
Visitor days are Tuesdays and Thursdays (excluding Public Holidays) throughout the year. You can book a tee time online in advance. However, please note availability is extremely limited in peak season and it’s best to book as early as possible. Find visitor information and green fees, and check availability here.
Muirfield is located in Gullane, East Lothian, on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth. This is around a 45-minute drive northeast of Edinburgh. There are also regular buses from Edinburgh, towards North Berwick, which stop in Gullane. Plan your journey.

Muirfield golf history
Established in 1891, Muirfield is the home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers (HCEG) historic golfing club. The original course was designed by Old Tom Morris and has undergone updates by notable architects, including Harry Colt in the 1920s. Famous for its distinctive circular layout, Muirfield allows for varied wind directions during play, presenting a unique challenge. It has hosted The Open Championship many times, and is celebrated for its traditional yet rigorous design.
