Edinburgh Science Festival
Edinburgh Science Festival is the largest science festival in the UK, and indeed one of the largest in Europe. Bringing scientific events, talks, shows and exhibitions to Scotland for two weeks over the Easter holidays. It’s an inspiring festival for all ages, with an entertaining programme for families and adults to enjoy. The 14-day festival happens annually, each April, during the school Easter Holidays. Check the official website for this year’s dates. Various venues are used across Edinburgh, such as City Art Centre, Dynamic Earth, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and National Museum of Scotland.
A festival for all ages
Although there are lots of family-friendly activities and workshops, the Edinburgh Science Festival is certainly not just for kids. There are a wide number of events just for adults too. Discussions, debates, performances, food and drink and interactive experiences, many taking place in the evenings.
The festival focuses on a new theme every year. So for example, in 2019, the theme was Frontiers. Inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, the festival explored the boundaries of knowledge and the spirit of adventure that drives science forward. In 2018, it was Life, The Universe and Everything. Taken from the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, this theme asked where do we come from, where are we going and how can science help future generations.
