What’s happening this Christmas in Edinburgh? It’s approaching thick and fast. Although we have just stepped into Autumn and are awaiting the piles of crispy and colourful leaves, Christmas celebrations will be upon us before we know it. With this in mind, we have pulled together a list of the top 5 things that are happening this Christmas in Edinburgh 2018.

Edinburgh Christmas Market and Attractions

Edinburgh Christmas Market is a huge hit with anyone visiting this historic city. It starts on 17th November and finishes on 5th January. As usual the traditional Edinburgh Christmas Market is held under the mound. It stretches along East Princes Street Gardens, taking in many of Edinburgh’s landmarks along the way. As usual, you can expect to find the peppering of quaint and quirky stalls. Candles, decorations, German cuisine, crafts, jewellery and much more can be uncovered in this must-see event. Plus, glittering fairground attractions, family activities and other festive events.

La Clique Noel – Part Deux

And yes, La Clique Noel is returning to Edinburgh this Christmas! And with it, comes its special array of tantalising and classic acts. Here you will indulge in, magic, comedy, burlesque, circus acts and much more, all inter weaved with the melodies of the talented live band.  A few favourites will be returning for this years show, such as fire eater Heather Holliday and mistress of mayhem, host Bernie Dieter. Not recommended for under 16s due to adult content.

Christmas at the Botanics

At the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, you can get into the festive cheer with this spectacular light show. Meander the gardens illuminated trail on a chilly winters eve and take in the beauty of this landscape lit up at night. This is is a truly magical experience for all to enjoy. It starts on the 23rd November and ends on the 29th December. 

Edinburgh Hogmanay

Also on the agenda, of course, is Edinburgh Hogmanay! As always this is a spectacular event. First to get in the mood, why not join the Torchlit Procession on the 30th December? March through the heart of Edinburgh city to the sound of pipes and beat of drums in a sea of fire followed by an explosion of fireworks on Calton Hill. The next day brings in the start of the Street Party. Most importantly this has the spectacular backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Experience outdoor bars, live music, and entertainment up until the bells strike at midnight, Then enjoy the ultimate firework display in the land as the city of Edinburgh is illuminated in this spectacular show.

Loony Dook

So the day after the night before can be a little painful. So why not do something different and head to this crazy and fun filled event? Perfect for the silly and mad, you can combat your hangover in fancy dress and take a dip in the chilling waters of the Firth of Forth on the 1st of January 2019. Are you up for it? Well if you are, simply head to the High Street and join the parade for this years Loony Dook!
