The Voices of the Edinburgh Tattoo
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a military performance of music and display, which has been taking place annually on Edinburgh Castle Esplanade since August 1950. Sadly, for the first time in its 70-year history, the event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the date is set for Edinburgh Tattoo 2022, and we can’t wait to welcome this tradition back to our city. Summer just isn’t the same without it!
Edinburgh Tattoo 2022
After being apart for so long, the theme for this year’s show is “Voices”, aptly celebrating the collective power and connection of voice. The summer extravaganza of military displays, musical performances, fireworks and projections will take inspiration from connections made over the past two years, despite all of the difficulties of the pandemic. Where people united creatively and shared their voices, even when they couldn’t be together in person.
The Tattoo Experience
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of the most famous military displays in the world. Featuring traditional Scottish performances such as Highland dancers, massed pipes and drums and fiddle players. Along with entertainment from military and cultural groups from all over the world. Traditionally, a Lone Piper plays a haunting lament to mark the finale. And the show always ends with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne. Featuring spectacular fireworks displays and military flybys, the Tattoo is a magical experience, which is hard to describe …
