For the first time in its 70-year history, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, along with all other large-scale events in Edinburgh, was cancelled this summer, due to coronavirus restrictions. But it was recently announced that the spectacular Edinburgh Tattoo will be back in 2021!
Tickets are now officially on sale now on the Tattoo website. They allow for social distancing measures, so there is a reduced capacity. Also, tickets are available in sections of up to four seats together.
70th Anniversary Celebrations
The Edinburgh Tattoo is a military performance of music and display, which has taken place every August from 1950 on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. This year was its 70th anniversary and so organisers had planned a huge celebration. As this sadly could not go ahead, retired Senior Drum Major Mick Hay took to the stage solo, on what would have been opening night.
In addition, a special socially distanced performance featuring Pipers Trail, Tattoo Dance Company and Hjaltibonhoga marked the finale.
Edinburgh Tattoo 2021
Although next year’s event may be a little different, it promises to be an unforgettable show. The summer extravaganza of military displays, musical performances, fireworks and projections, enters its eighth decade in 2021. It will be the 70th anniversary celebration that we missed out on this year. So we are really looking forward to seeing what the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has up its sleeve!
