Mardi Gras and Carnival free events

The Edinburgh Festival Carnival and Mardi Gras are two of the most popular events of the programme.

Taking place in the Grassmarket on Saturday 13th July, Mardi Gras has plenty of live music on multiple stages. And, best of all – it’s free! The party atmosphere will get you in the mood, as the New Orleans-style carnival comes to Edinburgh. So, pack your dancing shoes and get ready to dance to swing and blues in our historic city.

The Carnival is planned for Sunday 14th July. West Princes Street transforms into a kaleidoscope of colour, movement and sound with a display of wonderful costumes from local and international artists. This multicultural celebration aims to support those who have little or no access to the world of arts, teaching them new skills and getting them involved in this fantastic and vibrant celebration.
