Tim Peake’s Spacecraft at National Museum of Scotland
Tim Peake made history last year as the European Space Agency’s first British astronaut to go to the International Space Station. Now, you can see the Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft which Tim used to return to Earth last June. The National Museum of Scotland is the only Scottish venue to host the spacecraft as it tours the UK. So, why not get close to this remarkable vessel and explore the journey Tim took through a virtual reality adventure? Using Samsung Gear VR technology, you’ll get a 360° look inside a Soyuz capsule and an insight into the journey back to earth. The exhibition runs until 4th August 2018.
Plastic Beach at City Art Centre
Located close to Waverley Train Station, the City Art Centre has six floors, and there are a range of changing exhibitions throughout the year. This summer, the centre hosts the “Robert Callender: Plastic Beach … Poetry of the Everyday” exhibition. Taking place until 8th July 2018, this fascinating exhibition shines a light on the problems with plastic on the world’s beaches and in the oceans. Through talks, film screenings, workshops, and art displays, discover the devastating effect plastic has had, and what can be done to prevent more damage.
Their Work is Not Forgotten at Museum of Edinburgh
2018 marks the centenary of the right to vote for women, and this fascinating exhibition celebrates the milestone. Focusing on the women and their role in the suffrage movement, the exhibition highlights the Edinburgh protests and demonstrations in 1909. Here, you can also learn how young people in the city today engage with politics, and how things have changed.
