Pittenweem

Things to do in Pittenweem
This lovely fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife has plenty to offer on a day trip from Edinburgh. Soak up the scenery around the harbour and picturesque village streets, and pop into the local shops and cafes. You can also access the magnificent Fife Coastal Path, where you can walk along to neighbouring villages St Monans or Anstruther.
Visit St Filians Cave, a natural cavern formed thousands of years ago. Legend has it that St Filian of Pittenweem, a Scottish monk, lived there in the 6th century. It has had many uses over the centuries, as a place of worship, a base for smugglers, a storeroom for local fishermen and even a prison. Entry is by key, which you can collect from some of the shops on the High Street.
Nearby, you’ll also find Kellie Castle and Garden. Dating from the 1300s, this house was saved from ruin in the 19th century. It is a fascinating place to explore with Victorian interiors and ornamental plaster ceilings. Here, there are guided tours of the house and you can also visit the gardens, shop and tearoom.
