Visit Edinburgh in November

Visiting Edinburgh: November 2023

As November arrives, we reach the last month of autumn in Edinburgh. The final leaves fall from the trees and we prepare ourselves for the winter coming. Festive activities get underway, such as the launch of Edinburgh’s Christmas, and sparkling lights are hung in the streets to cheer up the darker evenings. We also celebrate St Andrew’s Day, the national day of Scotland.

November festivals and events

Edinburgh’s Christmas is our winter festival, starting mid-November. Details of this year’s event are yet to be announced, but we are expecting festive markets, exciting shows, fairground rides and fun attractions. Amazing illuminated light trails, Castle Of Light at Edinburgh Castle and Christmas at the Botanics at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, also get underway. Also, on 30th November, Scotland celebrates St Andrew’s Day with feasting and traditional music!

Theatre breaks in Edinburgh

Edinburgh Playhouse (just around the corner from our hotel) will be filled with Disney magic as the Broadway and West End musical Aladdin hits the stage. The show will run from 24th October to 18th November and is sure to make your wishes come true! See full listings here.

Attraction of the month: Edinburgh Dungeons

For November, our attraction of the month is Edinburgh Dungeons. This is a great indoor attraction in Edinburgh, which takes you on a journey through Scotland’s dark history. On the immersive tour, you’ll meet characters from the past, as live actors, special effects and amazing sets combine to bring history to life. What’s more, a special Dungeons Lates event takes place on selected Friday nights. This is an adults-only experience that’s darker and scarier than ever before!

Offer of the month: Autumn Gold

Stay in our central Edinburgh hotel for two nights, in a twin or double room with breakfast included, and a chilled bottle of Prosecco on arrival, with our fantastic Autumn Gold Offer! Available throughout October and November 2023. Enjoy city walks in autumnal surroundings, get started on your Christmas shopping, or visit the many attractions within walking distance of the hotel. Full details and T&Cs.

Day trip of the month: St Andrews

Edinburgh is a great base from which to explore the rest of Scotland. With convenient transport links by train and bus, and hire car options available, it’s so easy to get around. And since 30th November is St Andrews Day, why not visit the historic town of St Andrews this month? Located on the east coast of Fife is easy to reach by car or public transport in just over an hour. If you have use of a car, take our road trip to St Andrews and enjoy many wonderful sights along the way. Otherwise, catch the train from Edinburgh to Leuchars, followed by a short bus connection to St Andrews. Here, you can explore the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral and Castle, then relax at St Andrews Botanic Garden. And as St Andrews is the home of golf, we also recommend a visit to the world’s oldest golf course and the World Golf Museum.
