What’s on at Edinburgh Playhouse in 2023?
Edinburgh Playhouse has the largest capacity of any theatre in the UK, seating up to 3059 guests. It was built as a cinema in 1929, but today it is a theatre. It presents musicals, concerts, dramas and variety shows. Here are some of the best shows coming up in 2023 ..
Musical Theatre
The Playhouse is known for presenting some of the biggest musicals in town. In January and February, hit shows My Fair Lady, Jersey Boys and The Bodyguard will all take to the stage. In spring, there’s The Rocky Horror Show, Annie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Six and Strictly Ballroom. We are also looking forward to the Take That musical Greatest Days and Wizard of Oz-inspired Wicked, coming later in the year!
Music, Opera and Dance
There’s a wide variety of music and dance performances on the programme in 2023. From captivating operas La Bohème, Madama Butterfly and Aida to stunning ballets Giselle, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Other highlights include spectacular classical Chinese dance by Shen Yun and Festival of The Dead’s The Rock Orchestra by Candlelight. And Strictly fans will not want to miss Strictly Come Dancing The Professionals latest tour!
Comedy Shows
The biggest stars in comedy will be performing their latest stand-up shows. Including Jimmy Carr, Michael McIntyre, Jim Jefferies, Jon Richardson, Dara Ó Briain, Dave Gorman and Frankie Boyle. Plus, Jack Dee, Rory Bremner, Pippa Evans, Miles Jupp, and Marcus Brigstocke will be getting together for an evening of nonsense in I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.
