Indoor Shopping Centres
Edinburgh has a great selection of shopping centres. Some are right here in the city centre, while others can easily be reached by bus. These shopping, eating and leisure spaces are indoor, which means you can enjoy them whatever the weather. They are convenient places to shop because all the stores and outlets are close together, under one roof.
Princes Mall, Waverley Bridge
Princes Mall is just a 5-minute walk away from our hotel. The mall is right next to Waverley Station on Princes Street. It is fairly small, containing mainly high street clothes stores, a few local souvenir shops and a downstairs food court. Always busy, due to its very central location.
St James Quarter, St James Square
Also just around the corner from us, the St James Quarter is Edinburgh’s newest shopping destination. This huge shopping centre opened in 2021 and has a wide range of stores. Including a large John Lewis and a varierty of high street and designer brands.
Ocean Terminal, Leith
On the northern edge of the city, Ocean Terminal is a large shopping mall in Leith. Easy to reach by regular buses from the city centre. With several recognisable shops and brands, bars and restaurants, a cinema, gym and more. It’s also the home of the Royal Yacht Britannia, which you can access from within the centre.
Cameron Toll, near Newington
Cameron Toll, in the south of Edinburgh, is around a 30-minute bus ride from the city centre. The outlets here tend to cover budget brands, travel, banking and some high street fashion. There are also two supermarkets.

The Gyle Centre, South Gyle
The Gyle is beside the city bypass on the western side of Edinburgh. You can get there from the city centre by bus or tram in around half an hour. This is a big shopping centre with many high street names, including a large M&S, a supermarket and a food court up upstairs.
