What’s on at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival 2022?

The Edinbugh Jazz and Blues Festival returns!

It’s that time of year when all thoughts turn to the summer festivities happening in the Scottish capital. Here in Edinburgh, famously known as the Festival City, our streets, venues and public spaces will soon be alive with the sound of music, performance and entertainment. And, one of the best events to takes place in the city will be the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival 2022. 

2022 programme announced

This year, the festival returns with a fantastic line-up of live events, as well as an online programme. Taking place from 15th to 24th July 2022, the music festival will feature talented artists from all over the world. Running for 10 days, there will be jazz and blues concerts taking place in various venues across the city. These include Festival Theatre, Assembly Hall, The Jazz Bar, and Spiegeltent on George Square, as well as many public spaces, pubs, cafés and art galleries. From boogie woogie and swing jazz, to soulful blues and acoustic sets, there’s something for everyone. To find out what’s on in Edinburgh during this year’s festival, check out the full programme.

Jazz and blues concert highlights

Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will host a sensational concert at the Festival Theatre on the opening night of the festival, with special guest Eddi Reader and guest vocalists Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall. Also on opening night, Seoniad Aitken Big Band plus special guests present: A Night With Ella at Assembly Hall, celebrating the songs of jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald. Then, the great jazz singer and saxophonist Curtis Stigers will be performing at the Festival Theatre on 16th July, back by popular demand! Other highlights include Davina and the Vagabonds, John Scofield and Blind Boy Paxton. You can also be one of the first to enjoy upcoming acts with the incredible EXPO series, which showcases exciting new talent.

Mardi Gras and Carnival free events

The Edinburgh Festival Carnival and Mardi Gras are two of the most popular events of the programme.

Taking place in the Grassmarket on Saturday 16th July, Mardi Gras has plenty of live music on multiple stages. And, best of all – it’s free! The party atmosphere will get you in the mood, as the New Orleans-style carnival comes to Edinburgh. So, pack your dancing shoes, and get ready to dance to swing and blues in our historic city.

The Carnival is planned for Sunday 17th July. This will include a colourful and vibrant parade down The Mound and into West Princes Street Gardens. Featuring hundreds of drummers, dancers and performers.
