Walking in Edinburgh: Arthur’s Seat
Set in the beautiful Holyrood Park, a trek up Arthur’s Seat is one of the best-known walks in Edinburgh. A short but challenging climb up an 800ft extinct volcano, Arthur’s Seat is quite literally a beacon for fun, free things to do in Edinburgh. With spectacular 360-degree views of the city below, not to mention the many myths and mysteries just waiting to erupt, scaling the side of this ancient hill fort is a treat for anyone in search of spectacular views, marvellous history and a healthy dose of adrenaline.
Blooming Brilliant: Water of Leith
For a peaceful, tranquil stroll through the heart of Edinburgh, make your way through the meandering walkways of the Water of Leith. This 12-mile walk stretches from Balerno to Leith and is teeming with spectacular wildlife and beautiful nooks and crannies. But don’t worry. You don’t have to do the entire trail in one go. With so many wonderful and charming sections, joining in and dropping off as you please is a favourite way to tackle the trail.
Picture-Perfect Trails: Dean Village and The Galleries Of Modern Art
Setting out from Stockbridge, this stunning circular walk is a work of art in itself. Running along the Water of Leith, it passes along some of Edinburgh’s most magnificent Georgian architecture, through the enchanting Dean Village to the Scottish National Galleries of Modern Art. From there, it is just a hop, skip and a jump to the beautiful grounds, spectacular statues and mesmerising masterpieces within.
Step Up The Excitement: Calton Hill
If you don’t feel like venturing far, take a stroll up Calton Hill. Only a 5-minute walk from the Parliament House Hotel, Calton Hill is a favourite stop for locals and tourists alike.
