What’s New at Parliament House Hotel?

2018 Hotel Refurbishment

At Parliament House, we like to keep our hotel looking good, so we are constantly updating, refreshing and restoring. This year, we underwent an extensive hotel refurbishment, to ensure all areas of the hotel are in tip top condition. Our aim, to deliver everything the modern guest needs, whilst working with the original historic features that make the property so unique and full of character.

Bedrooms

We have been working hard to refresh all bedrooms in the hotel over the past few years, giving each wing its own unique style. This year, we redecorated and replaced all fittings and furniture in a further 29 rooms. We completely stripped them back, adding new carpets, curtains … everything. Even the doors have been replaced! We also re-tiled the bathrooms and put in new showers, sinks and units. We are so happy with the new look and have received great feedback from guests already.

Lounge and Reception

Our lounge and reception area has had the full works too. It’s lighter and brighter, and we have a stunning new carpet featuring Scottish poppies, swaying in the wind. The whole space looks so much bigger. We’ve added versatile seating, perfect for individuals or groups relaxing in the lounge. The new tables vary in height and guests can move them around, mixing and matching, depending on their requirements. We have a beautiful new fireplace, and an elegant handmade drinks cabinet. And behind reception we now have a fantastic bookcase wall, complete with a secret door!

A quality kilt maker has dressed the four large windows with spectacular tartan tweed curtains, kilt pelmets and kilt belt tie backs. And within the windows we’ve hung bespoke light shades. Featuring different pictures from the early pioneering photographers, David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson, who used the famous Rock House Studio across the road.

Opposite reception, in the snug, we have another large drinks cabinet. Making it easy for guests to get a drink and sit back in the lounge. They can also purchase refreshments here, such as cakes and antipasti nibbles and platters.

Corridors and Stairwell

The full hotel interior refurbishment also flows into the corridors and stairwell. We’ve adorned the stairwell walls with mirrors to open up the space. And, of course, we’ve kept our old Victorian elevator. This was previously converted into a phone booth and is a popular little quirk of the hotel. We’ve continued the Scottish kilt décor here, brightening up the interior and elevator seat

We are delighted with our beautiful hotel refurbishment and we hope you like it too. Will you be visiting us in 2019? Go on, check out our special offers and see our recently refurbished hotel for yourself!
