What’s On Over Easter in Edinburgh?

Easter Weekend in Edinburgh 2019

As spring arrives in the capital our thoughts turn to the next holiday in the calendar. Easter falls on Friday 19th to Monday 22nd April this year. So, lets take a look at what’s on this Easter weekend in Edinburgh to keep us all entertained.

The Edinburgh Science Festival is on throughout the Easter holidays, but its not just for kids and families. There are many science-themed events for grown-ups too, including discussions, debates, workshops, screenings and nights out. You can download the full programme here.

For nature-lovers, the Royal Botanic Garden celebrates the Scottish Rhododendron Festival. Discover a magnificent collection of colourful rhododendrons in The Botanics and all across Scotland, which flower during April and May.

And if you’re into scary movies, don’t miss Dead By Dawn, The Filmhouse’s annual horror festival. With premieres, rare classics and lots of short films to scare you silly.

Audience at a theatre show

Enjoy a delicious pre-theatre meal with us at MP’s Bistro, before heading round the corner to Edinburgh Playhouse for Matilda The Musical. Inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic tale, this award-winning show from the Royal Shakespeare Company is a true delight. There’s also the cult classic Abigail’s Party at the King’s Theatre, and comedy Local Hero, based on the Bill Forsyth film at the Royal Lyceum.

Comedy Show neon sign on the wall

If you’re in need of a good laugh this bank holiday, there are several comedy shows to choose from. On Sunday, The Stand hosts a Bank Holiday Special featuring Jo Caulfield, Ray Badran, MC Hammersmith, Krystal Evans and host Martin Mor. And at the same time, Monkey Barrel Comedy showcases a line-up of rising stars in The BIG Sunday show.

Exhibitions and Events
