Edinburgh Festivals and Events Summer 2021 Update

As Edinburgh starts to open up again after lockdown, we have been looking at plans for the city’s upcoming events. Here’s the latest news from some of the major Edinburgh festivals and events this summer, as of May 2021.

Royal Highland Show

14 – 20 June 2021

This year, the Royal Highland Show’s celebration of food, farming and rural life will take place online only. Streaming events such as show jumping, sheep shearing and cooking demonstrations, from the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston. Find out more.

Edinburgh Science Festival

26 June – 11 July 2021

This festival usually takes place in the spring, but has been moved forward to summer 2021. Exploring the theme One World, Edinburgh Science Festival plans to deliver some events in different formats and spaces this year to ensure a safe and quality experience. Find out more.

Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival

16 – 25 July 2021

Across the ten days, Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival will host a selection of digital events, plus some small, live concerts with social distancing. They will announce the full programme on Tuesday 8th June. Find out more.

Edinburgh Art Festival

29 July – 29 August 2021

Edinburgh Art Festival has announced a programme of over 35 exhibitions and new commissions in visual art spaces across the city, together with a digital programme of online events. Find out more.

Edinburgh Summer Sessions

6 – 15 August 2021

This series of concerts in Princes Street Gardens is still set to go ahead, with a line up including Anne Marie, Tom Jones and the DMA’s. Tickets are available now. Tickets on sale here.

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

6 – 28 August 2021

The 2021 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has now been cancelled. Tickets already purchased can be refunded or rescheduled for next year. Find out more.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

6 – 30 August 2021

The Fringe Festival is hoping to have a mix of online and live performances with social distancing and other safety measures in place. They are still putting the programme together and will announce it later in the year. Check the latest news.

Edinburgh International Festival

7 – 29 August 2021

The International Festival has announced a reimagined festival for 2021. Where temporary outdoor pavilions will host live socially-distanced events. They will also release a selection of free online performances during each week of the festival. The programme will be available from 2 June with tickets on sale from 11 June. Find out more.

Edinburgh International Book Festival

14 – 30 August 2021

This year the Book Festival moves to Edinburgh College of Art’s building and grounds on Lauriston Place. They are hoping to have a mix of online and live events, with the programme to be announced at the end of June. Check the latest news.

Edinburgh International Film Festival

18 – 25 August 2021

Moving to the month of August this year, the Edinburgh International Film Festival is planning a series of indoor and outdoor cinema experiences, along with online festival screenings and events. The full programme and tickets will be available from Wednesday 28th July. Find out more.
