Experience the Edinburgh Tattoo in 2024

Edinburgh Tattoo 2024: Journeys

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a military performance of music and display, which has taken place almost every year on Edinburgh Castle Esplanade since August 1950. This year’s Tattoo is scheduled to run from 2nd to 24th August 2024. The theme is “Journeys” and the show promises to take you on a journey through time.

The Tattoo Experience

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of the most famous military displays in the world. It features traditional Scottish performances such as Highland dancers, massed pipes and drums and fiddle players, along with entertainment from military and cultural groups from all over the world. Traditionally, a Lone Piper plays a haunting lament to mark the finale. And the show always ends with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne. Featuring spectacular fireworks displays and military flybys on selected nights, the Tattoo is a magical experience, which is hard to describe …

Edinburgh Castle Esplanade

The show is hosted on the esplanade in front of Edinburgh Castle. This is a flat, wide area built in the 18th century as a parade ground for troops. Today it sets the stage for various large-scale events, in particular, the annual Royal Military Tattoo. Special stadium seating is erected in the months before the event, to accommodate audiences of up to 8,700 per night. Performances take place against the stunning backdrop of the castle.
