Blooming Marvellous: Edinburgh Festivals In March

As the days begin to get longer and signs of spring blossom all over the city, winter is nothing but a distant memory as Edinburgh buds with wonderful new festivals and events in March. The start of greater things to come, the Edinburgh springtime festival line-up is the perfect way to ease into the busy, vibrant (not to mention world-famous) Edinburgh festival season. As Edinburgh’s Georgian Shadows shed some light on the history of Edinburgh’s New Town, a host of fabulous Edinburgh Festivals in March gets underway

Shamrocks and Shenanigans

As the rest of the world head to their nearest pub to toast the luck of the Irish on St Paddy’s Day, Edinburgh kicks off a multi-arts, family-friendly celebration of the Emerald Isle all our own. In celebration of Edinburgh’s wonderful Irish community, the city comes to life with shamrocks and storytelling, dance and music, and a wonderful array of food, drink and comedy from the 17th to the 25th of March in Edinburgh’s annual Festival of Ireland.

Good, Clean Fun. No Strings Attached

From the 25th of March until the 15th of April, the annual Puppet Animation Festival returns to dozens of venues across Edinburgh. From puppet making and animation workshops to puppet theatre and animated films, the Puppet Animation Festival just so happens to be the UK’s largest performing arts event for children. But don’t let that fool you. With 140 events in over 40 venues across Scotland, the festival has been transporting children and adults alike to colourful, magical worlds of make-believe for decades.

A Plucky Little Festival

To end a wonderful month of Edinburgh festival magic is a plucky little festival that has been gaining ground since 1982. From the 31st of March until the 5th of April, the annual Edinburgh International Harp Festival returns. While the docile sounds of a tranquil harp may not be everybody’s cup of tea, with world-class performances, workshops and courses, you will be harping on about Edinburgh’s growing Harp Community in no time.

So make the most of Edinburgh Festivals in March with a Spring Break to one of the world’s most beautiful cities. From just £52 per person per night, it is guaranteed to be a blooming good idea.
