What’s on at Edinburgh Playhouse in 2024?
Parliament House Hotel is just a short walk from Edinburgh Playhouse. As we are so close, many of our guests enjoy a show at this fantastic theatre during their stay with us. The Playhouse has the largest capacity of any theatre in the UK, seating up to 3059 guests. It was built as a cinema in 1929, but today it is a live theatre. It presents a wide range of musicals, concerts, dramas and variety shows. So, here are some of the best shows coming up in 2024 …
Musical Theatre
The Playhouse hosts some of the biggest musicals in town. In January and February, hit shows Wicked, Shrek, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Wizard Of Oz will all take to the stage. Then in spring, there’s Pretty Woman, Madagascar, The Drifters Girl and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Over the summer, we have Six and Grease. We are also looking forward to Come From Away, Blood Brothers, Hairspray, Book Of Morman and Only Fools and Horses coming later in the year!
Music, Opera and Dance
There’s a wide variety of music and dance performances on the programme in 2024. From captivating ballets Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake to stunning operas Carmen and Madama Butterfly. Other highlights include Strictly Come Dancing: The Professionals and Lord of the Dance: A Lifetime of Standing Ovations.
Comedy Shows
The biggest stars in comedy will be performing their latest stand-up shows. This year’s lineup includes James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome, Bill Bailey: Thoughtifier, Frankie Boyle: Lap Of Shame, Romesh Ranganathan: Hustle, Tom Allen: Completely, Sarah Millican: Late Bloomer and Jason Manford – A Manford All Seasons.
